Manor Place Trolley Derby 2008
Welcome to the Manor Place Trolley Derby and our new web site. This event will again be run, in the afternoon, on the second Sunday in March. It still remains a “free entry” event, and this year will feature some new classes, a return to age group racing, and one major technical change.
The major technical change is as follows….for the three “age group”/”restricted wheel” classes, the diameter of the wheels allowed, has changed from 250mm, to a new max. of 300mm..

Junior Class
Age 5 to 8yrs old.
Maximum wheel diameter 300mm. Must have effective brakes. Must be purpose built for trolley racing. Safety equipment must be worn.(cycle helmet or crash helmet, gloves, shoes and overalls) (i.e. bare skin))
Competing for the GRAHAM HALL CUP

Intermediate Class
9 to 11yrs old
Maximum wheel diameter 300mm. Must have effective brakes. Must be purpose built for trolley racing. Safety equipment must be worn. (Cycle helmet or crash helmet, gloves, shoes and overalls) (i.e. bare skin))
Competing for the DICK CORKIN CUP

Senior class
12 to 14yrs old
Maximum wheel diameter 300mm. Must have effective brakes. Must be purpose built for trolley racing. Safety equipment must be worn.( cycle helmet or crash helmet, gloves, shoes and overalls) (ie. no bare skin))
Competing for the SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP

There are no design restrictions within these three classes but the RONNIE LANE CUP
will to be awarded to the fastest “soap-box” designed trolley (this is essentially a trolley that is wooden, and could be built by the driver themselves.)

The overall winners of these three classes, and the winner of the Super modified class, will compete for the OTAGO SOUTHLAND CUP.

All the competitors in these three classes and the competitors in the super modified class will compete for the DUNEDIN JAYCEE CUP, which will be awarded to the best presented trolley and driver.

Super Modified Class
This is essentially an “open” class event, with no design restrictions, no wheel restriction, with a minimum drivers age of 12 years old. The trolley must be purpose built for trolley racing, must have effective brakes and drivers will wear appropriate safety equipment.
This is a very competitive class, where the issues of aerodynamics, rolling resistance, inertia and all the other technicalities of “down hill” trolley racing, can be addressed, with an open mind, and a “clean slate” approach to the design criteria.
A trophy will be awarded to the overall winner of this class.

Themed or Novelty Class
This is an “anything goes” class, where the emphasis is on fun and entertainment.
Would suit corporate, special interest or even student groups. As with the other classes, the entry must have working brakes and drivers must have protective clothing and head gear Fastest entry is not necessary the winner of the class, this will be determined, at the discretion of the organisers, who will take into account, effort, crowd entertainment and various other intangibles.(bribery might even be considered)
A trophy will be awarded
